Trip Log (Letter written February 18, 2008)

February 18, 2008 (Monday)

7:00AM Breakfast
7:30AM Jessica arrived in anticipation of the rental car. We made several calls and continued to wait till 11:00. Finally walked across the street and rented an off-brand car.
11:30AM On the road to Nacaome. Jessica tells me that Fernando has been the driving force to get the registration project off dead center (assuming it is moving again). Fernando called Roxana who, in turn called Edvardo (who happens to work for the Vice President). Roxana had a meeting with the Vice President who said he would help, we’ll see. Pr. Schemechel’s lawyer, Carlos Gomez, did acknowledge the email from me.
2:30PM Fernando, Roxana, Jessica, and I met in the motel restaurant. There seems to be general consensus that the Registration process is on a fast(er) track and will be signed within days; we’ll see. I spent quite a bit of time explaining that, when talking about L4L with the press, we must constantly bring the conversation back to the overall L4L project and not let it focus on the Anabel story. We will attempt to see the Associated Press reporter while I am here. We have a meeting scheduled with Alcalde Antonio Valosquez of Goascoran at 9:00 in the morning so will meet at 7:00 and stop by to inspect the new kitchen on our way.
Note: The Spanish word, “Alcalde” translates to “Mayor” or “Governor”, depending on the dictionary and I will use either term during the days ahead. Alcalde Valosquez governs an area the size of an Alabama county. The job is full-time.
5:00PM We took Roxana home.
6:00PM End of day.
7:00PM Mayor Antonio Valosquez called; he will not be able to meet with us in his office at 9:00AM since he will be in meetings in Teguci. all morning. He will stop by the motel on his way back to Goascoran. That did not happen as he didn’t get back till 11:00PM (you won’t catch me driving around at 11:00PM)
